M78 is one of the brightest reflection nebulae, shining by the light of two bright B-stars, mainly in the blue part of the visual spectrum. The core of this molecular cloud complex contains a cluster of new stars that is visible only in the infrared.
The field of view of the elephant is not large enough to show the whole extension of the nebula complex, but nevertheless this central part appears very dynamic.
